The latest image project from Saben is a modern interpretation of their collection inspiration, late 17th century art movement Vanitas. The photo series is styled by Amber Armitage and plays on the colour chemistry of the Saben winter 2018 collection.
The depth of the colour palette ties the vintage theme with a current eco consciousness through the use of natural tan and navy. The burgundy styles (lovingly coined Bordeaux) resonate reinvented luxury by blending showy codes of royalty with new silhouettes. Large scale exotic skins add an evocative mood to historic glamour. Smoke, candles, memento-mori, fruit, flowers and pearls all play homage to the original movement, but the symbolism is muted by saturated colour. The photo series expresses the modern sensibility synonymous with Saben design. With a deliberate use of dramatic chiaroscuro captured by photographer Melanie Jenkins.
The Saben Vanitas collection has been expertly paired with Resene paint. Bordeaux marries with Resene Spitfire, Dijon gets cosy with Resene Hot Toddy, Navy with Resene Blue Charcoal and Chestnut is perfection with Resene Cape Palliser.
